I use less electricity

=> controlling my energy consumption

=> reducing my bill and saving money

=> maximizing my appliances’ lifespans

Hark the violins, here comes the drama. Nuclear power debate set aside, did you know you had the power, here and now, to shut down two French nuclear power stations?

Sorry for the apocalyptic announcement, but it’s true that our manner of using appliances has a significant impact on our energy consumption. Do you know what I’m talking about? The famous “stand-by” function, of course! That same function that we imagine will save us sooo much time when we switch our TV or computer back on! That same habit that makes us keep our phone charger plugged in so that we don’t need to plug and un-plug it all the time!

So, let’s daydream a bit here. Let’s dream of a world where all citizens are a bit more aware and a bit less lazy (and I know what I’m talking about because it’s a daily battle against myself for this) and decide to unplug all appliances when they are not in use anymore.

I read pretty many articles on the subject, and learned that an average of 11 % of our electric utilities bill burns away in the stand-by mode of devices, this is over 80 euros at the end of the year at current rates. Do you need any further inspiration?

So, to make my life easier, I bought a multiple socket with that little light switch that reminds me when I forgot to kill the power and means I don’t need to plug and unplug everything all the time.  For now, I’m sticking to it. The best would be
